2009/6/19 - 7/1 France, Andorra & Spain

It was a crazy road trip for the 10 of us. Going from Paris, Bordeaux climbing the mountain to cross the border to Andorra. Drove further south to Barcelona and then return. Really crazy!

We arrived in CDG Paris at around 7am. We went to pick up our car at Budget. Well... Budget has got really the best deals but not the best cars! The Zafiro reserved for us had got a cracked windshield! Alan went to complain about it and we had got another one.

4 of us had already arrived in Paris a day earlier and Julie was arriving at 8:30am this day. We agreed to meet before 9am at the arrival hall. We drove off to the nearest Carrefour but unfortunately it was not opened yet. We went back to the airport to meet the rest of gang, picked up another car (which had also got a small crack at the windshield!) and then officially started our roadtrip! We had only got 1 GPS so before the trip, I had asked Ju to buy a pair of walkies from the U.K. as the frequencies allowed in Europe are different from HK so we couldn't bring ours in.

Our first stop was La Vallée Village, a branded fashion outlet about 5 minutes from Paris Disneyland, 30-40 minutes from CDG. We spent around 1.5 hours trying to find something to buy (shopaholic!). I had finally found something I loved VERY much! I bought a pair of PUMA x EVISU jeans at only 40€! Best buy! And of course I wore it the very next day ^v^...

And then we were hungry. We went to the shopping mall nearby which is called Centre Commercial Régional Val D'europe and found a supermarket. We bought a lot of delicacies e.g. a box of no. 2 French oysters, roasted chicken, pizza, ham etc. The rain was coming and we were hungry so we settled for the hugh vacant outdoor carpark nearby to wipe all the food up! By the time we had almost finished, the rain came! So we set off for the road to Chartres.

Chartres is about 90 kilometres southwest of Paris. The Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres, (French: Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres), was the most important building in the town of Chartres and is widely considered to be the finest gothic cathedral in France. It is listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Its construction started in 1205, following the destruction of the old cathedral of Chartres. Construction took 66 years.

We parked our car in a carpark and headed for the cathedral. It was a very cold day and we visited the church and loitered for around a couple of hours and it was almost time to leave for the place we would stayed that night.

We finally arrived at almost 7:30pm at night at Closerie LaFontaine, hungry and tired! Our host Nicholas were waiting for us at the bridge outside as it was getting late, 'fraid that we were lost! There were 5 rooms across 3 storeys and we hustled and bustled for a few minutes about who to take which and then settled. We had our apperitif in the garden at 8pm, so relieved that finally we would have a good and decent dinner. We dranked this 'fizzy wine' from Vouvray in Loire. It tasted like champagne but just that it was not produced within the champagne area so it's called fizzy wine. The rest of night I didn't remember much as we were tired and drunk ^v^... Some of us left the table very early and didn't come back and rest of us struggled and stayed until the end and got to taste the wonderful home-made chocolate cake. Very delicious and mouth-watering dessert!

We called it a day almost at 11pm and slept the night away.
